The primary purpose of this position is to ensure that high quality data is produced in accordance with prescribed methods and standard operating procedures. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Responsible for the entire analytical process, from sample preparation through data analysis using state-of-the-art analytical equipment such as GC and GC-MS.
The chemist will become familiar with the analytical equipment and software, including but not limited to Chemstation, Target and the Horizon Laboratory Information Management System.
Follow appropriate methodologies as prescribed in the laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Analyze evaluate and approve the results of QC samples.
Document activities and report results in a concise accurate manner.
Identify and report quality problems to the supervisor or QA department.
Produce quality error free work.
Meet production requirements
Maintain, troubleshoot and repair equipment.
Exercise laboratory safety practices.
Strong commitment to quality and integrity.
Must actively participate in the laboratory’s Quality System.
Overseeing staff with in the section.
Ensuring accuracy of results and that QC is carried out.
Investigating and rectifying anomalies reported for QC and test samples.
Training and developing of section staff.
Control consumable stock required for the tasks performed.
Monitoring instrument performance and notifying Laboratory Manager if the instrument is not operating to specifications, including when instrument QC fall outside control limits.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

A commitment to cross training.
Two years of education in a physical or environmental science or two years experience in a laboratory environment. Bachelors is preferred.
Familiarity with Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry is a plus.
The ability to sit and/or stand for intervals of up to 8 hours while working
Able to speak and hear clearly while communicating with staff management or clients.
Dexterity in hands and fingers to operate equipment and handle glassware;
Must have average vision and able to see to read reports and operate equipment
Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone
